5 things NOT to pack on a trip

For many people, the most difficult task in the travelling process is (un)packing.

packing for a trip

However, most people do not get advice on what to leave behind when travelling.

Here is a list of five things you do not need on your trip because you can request them from your hotel or make do some other way.

1. Your complete set of toiletries

Basic stuff like soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, shampoo will likely be provided by your hotel. You may also purchase other necessities such as dental floss and nail varnish can be purchased during your trip.

So unless you’re particularly fussy about your brands of toiletries, then there’s no need to have these packed on your trip. Also, you can easily dispose of them and there is no need for you to lug them back and forth.

2. Children’s toys:

Travelling with children is already a challenge on its own, what’s worse is having restless children on your hands with no means to entertain or distract them.

However it is not necessary to pack a bag filled with your children’s’ toys. Many guest houses and chalets have play pens where children can entertain themselves.

Crayons, colouring books, Lego and other toys can also be easily provided for your kid’s entertainment.

3. Board Games:

Like children, adults need to be entertained too sometimes. You may happen to have a lot of spare time on their hands during vacations, especially if the purpose of your travel is just relaxation and recreation, or if you are the plus-one of someone who is busy with business meetings or conferences.

You can easily request board games from the front desk to pass the time. Sincerely, there is no need to carry your Ludo from Abuja to Nairobi.

4. Books:

The year is 2016; a digital revolution has occurred, thus, there is no reason to go along with paperback books and magazines to ‘pass the time’.

You can easily download the soft copies of whatever literature you plan to read during your trip. Free up luggage space by leaving your heavy books behind.

5. Swim suit

Any self-respecting hotel, lodge or resort with a swimming pool will definitely have swim suits available for sale or rent. It is not necessary that you pack a swim suit. Well, unless there’s that particular pair that makes your body look like Adonis.
