The summer travel season is gradually gaining steam and expectedly, the airport queues will not be light owing to the large number of people travelling and increased security presence owing to the increased terror attacks in recent times.

While we empathise with the millions of travellers around the world who'll be subject to these long waits, especially in the United Stateswhere it's been reported that queues drag on for as long as 4 hours, we present the light at the end of the tunnel.

As you wait on those unavoidably long queues, here are 5 fun things you can do to pass time.

1. Read a book: Could there be any more obvious suggestion, you may wonder? But could there be anything more rewarding? We retort. Reading still remains one of the most effective ways to gain knowledge and insight to new things, and hugely successful people are known for their great reading habits. So, rather than grumble about a situation you can only do so much about, catch up on that reading list.

2. Research on your destination: If you're heading outwards, why not take some time to learn new fun things about where your destination? Culture, food, fun spots the works.

3. Make new friends: Now it's getting interesting. Seeing as you'll be spending all that time doing next to nothing, why not chat up someone on the queue with you? You'll be surprised at how many future great friendships/business alliances are formed in such situations. It is however important to read the body language of the person you intend to chat up, if they show no interest in chit chatting, then look to numbers 1 and 2 above.

4. Observe and create: If you're a creative person then this should be a natural great option for you. Take in your surroundings and try to weave a story around each person. Who knows, you just might be on your way to that best seller.

5. Watch a movie/play games: When all else fails, you can always catch up on your fave movies/series or just play a game on your phone (Candy Crush, anyone?)
