Lagos takes over Nigerian corner at the 3-day event in London

Notting Hill Carnival, one of the world's largest street festivals is an annual carnival which largely celebrates the Caribbean culture and tradition.

As a part of the celebration for Lagos@5o, Lagos state, representing the Nigerian corner, is at its best at the world famous Notting Hill Carnival holding in London.

The 3-days event tagged “Love Lagos Weekend” is in honour of the 20-year Anniversary of Fela’s transition to the greater beyond, Felabration, an annual festival celebrating the life, times and music of Nigeria’s icon and creator of Afrobeat Genre, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti. Felabration is one of the top 300 festivals in the world.

The Lagos state governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, once said that his administration is committed to ensuring that Lagos becomes the tourism and entertainment hub of Africa, was represented by Lagos State Acting Commissioner for Tourism, Arts & Culture, Mrs Adebimpe Akinsola.

Speaking at the event, Akinsola said "Under project T.H.E.S.E, we are resolved to grow the Lagos economy and empower the youth through several alternative means, which include the tactical promotion of tourism, entertainment and sports."

(T.H.E.S.E is an acronym for Tourism, Hospitality, Entertainment and Sporting Excellence)

According to Ayo Shonaiya, the producer of the event, “As we’ve been doing for over 30 years, producing the Nigerian Corner at the Notting Hill Carnival, it’s just getting better and better, and with Lagos State’s involvement since last year, we’ve now added the EKOpolitan Experience to it, which is aimed at promoting the brand Lagos to the world”.

Lagos state is indeed gradually becoming the cultural hub of Africa.
