Putting food into oil that isn't hot enough for frying will only leave you with a soggy, sodden mess. Oil must be very hot before you put in the food you intend to fry.

To check if the oil is hot enough, put a wooden spoon in it. If the oil starts to bubble around the wood, then it is hot enough and you can put in your food to fry.

3. How to soften butter:

Most baking recipes require mixing softened butter with other ingredients. If your butter is hot, simply put a glass in the microwave oven for a few minutes.

Then cover the butter with the warm glass. It will soften the butter without melting it.
