The skirt included several slits, showcasing a glimpse of Lupita's toned legs and finished off her look with gold eyeshadow and pink lip gloss. Lupita voices the character of Raksha the wolf for the much anticipated live-action movie.
More than her look, the Kenyan actress showed that stunning red carpet style doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg. According to the creative director and president of J.Crew, Jenna Lyons, who worked on the custom piece with Nyong’o and her stylist, Micaela Erlanger; “Watching Lupita smile and twirl in her outfit was like winning the fashion lottery.”
“We wanted it to be youthful and playful, but also totally appropriate for the carpet,” added Erlanger. The final look matched the ease of a T-shirt with the glamour of a sequined frock, a casual sense of chic that was taken from the brand’s Fall 2016 collection.
That aesthetic was heightened with jewelry from Fred Leighton and Stuart Weitzman stilettos. “We thought it would be fun to play with the idea that sportswear can be worn in a glamorous, red carpet–worthy way,” continued Erlanger.
Given the cold weather on the East Coast right now, Nyong’o had to layer on a denim jacket before the big reveal, too. “Who knew a knit sweater and denim jacket could look so fabulous paired with a glittery skirt?” said Erlanger. “This says fashion doesn’t have to cost a fortune—it can be accessible and just as cool and glamorous.”
