Timi Dakolo, Aramide, Yemi Sax, others in fascinating performances at 2016 edition [PHOTOS]

The event which took place at Sarius Palm Garden on Saturday and Sunday, November 19-20, 2016 had in attendance musicians and instrumentalists from Nigeria, Kenya and South Africa.

Performing hit songs off her debut album, Aramide brought life to the stage with her guitar.

"I love 's performance," said Jeffery Jones. "Timi is a phenomenal artist. Look at the way he left the stage and brought music to us on our seats. I have never experienced such in my entire life," he said.

World-renowned Nigerian trumpeter, Etuk Ubong, gave the audience a captivating performance alongside his amazing drummer, pianist and bass guitarist.

Christine Kamau from Nairobi, Kenya took the audience on a totally different level with her songs especially Miela Miela (which means Dance Dance in her native language).

Making music from different instruments right on stage was Ed Izyics. "For me, watching Ed Izyics play was like watching a movie," said Adora Onyechere. "I know playing a single instrument is enough work but this guy makes music from two different flutes and piano almost at the same time. I was amazed to know that he produced all those lovely sounds. That for me is totally amazing," she said.

Yemi Sax, popularly known as the African Sax Oracle was in his element.

Mrs Janet Olufemi, an elated audience member who could not stop dancing told correspondent that she had come for the event having heard that Yemi Sax was on the list of artistes.

"When I saw Yemi Sax on the list, I knew I would attend this event. I have watched Yemi play on television and since I could not get him to play at my wedding, I had to come with my husband," she said.

Other artistes at the event were Tomi Sax; Adrien Owen from Australia; Bem Sar, an ultra-talented guitarist and Kiran.

For Ado Ibrahim, the president and founder of Capital Jazz Festival, the event was organised to bring people together especially families

According to Mr Ibrahim, Jazz music has to power to bring people together from different parts of the world.

He stated that the goal of Capital Jazz Festival is to bring renowned artistes like Kenny G and Sade Adu to Nigeria in a few years from now.

His words: "It is my passion because I know the power of Jazz music. Jazz is the only music that has the power to bring people together from all over. We have kids and adults here because it's only during such times that families have to bond. With the hustle and bustle, parents no longer spend quality time with their kids and spouses.

"By next year, we're bringing Sade Adu to Nigeria. My goal is to bring Kenny G to Nigeria soon. We'll also have Femi Kuti and Lagbaja on our stage next year. We are also bringing different artists from all over Africa next year and it would last from Friday to Sunday just like it's done in America and other parts of the world.

"The goal is to bring quality jazz music to our locals. This would also jump-start the economy in Abuja as lots of people come into the Capital city," Ibrahim said.

For Jazz music enthusiasts, the event presents an opportunity to not only listen to quality sounds from the best artistes around but make new friends. Others said the event should be organised at least twice a year.

Indeed it was a memorable weekend for Abuja residents who anticipate a bigger event come 2017.
