Husband, wife arraigned for stabbing neighbour

A man and his wife has been docked in an Abuja court for stabbing their neighbour during a quarrel.

Anthony Okorie and his wife, Mercy, a nursing mother of twins, have been docked at the Abuja Grade 1 Area Court for stabbing their neighbour, Johnson Omodia, over fumes emitted by his generating set.

According to the police prosecutor in the case, DSP Anthony Egwu, the couple were angry that the victim's generator emitted so much fumes and was affecting their new born babies and when they tried to forcefully put off the generator, a fight ensued and the couple used a sharp object to stab Omodia who sustained serious injuries.

Egwu said Okorie and his wife were charged with joint act, criminal force and causing hurt, offences contrary to sections 79, 265 and 246 of the Penal Code.

When the charges were read to the accused, they pleaded not guilty and Mercy was granted temporary bail on self-recognition by the judge, Mohammed Marafa, over her condition as a nursing mother.
