2 men face trial for stealing electricity cable

The suspects are at a risk of a 7-year jail term if found guilty, according to Sections 285, 348 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011.

The suspects have been levelled with a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, stealing and wilful damage.

According to Insp. Moses Uademevbo, the prosecuting officer, the pair committed the crime on June 25, 2016, at an oil and gas company located in Apapa.

The pair, who were accused of stealing cables worth  N254,000, have however denied the charges against them.

The offence, which contravenes with Sections 285, 348 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011, carries a 7-year imprisonment punishment for anyone found guilty.

Mrs O.O.A. Fowowe-Erusiafe, the Magistrate at the court, granted them bail in the sum of N100, 000 each with two sureties each in like sum, after they pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The case has been adjourned till July 27, 2016, for further hearing, according to PM News.
