She decides what he should do, how should behave, selects his friends and associates, and vet his relationships.

But Sola has come of age and wants to get married to a woman he loves but his mother wants him to get married to her friend's daughter not minding the fact that he may not be in love with her.

Read his story here.

"My name is Olusola, a 32-year-old man. I am an only son with four sisters and I can say my status made my parents pamper me to no end.

My mother especially has been so overbearing, dictating to me what I should do even when it comes to my relationships.

She has been in the habit of choosing my friends, what I should do, where I should go, what I should wear and all that stuff. While growing up, everyone saw me as a mummy's child because everything I did was to please her.

She was the one that made me study the course I read in the university and when I graduated, my mother made sure I did my youth service in Lagos so I would not be away from home for one year.

But right now, we are having issues because she wants me to marry her friend's daughter instead of a woman I love and want to marry.

I knew there was going to be trouble when I took to meet my parents and introduce her as the woman I wanted to marry.

The way my mother looked at her and the questions she threw Shade's way made her cringe and I knew she was not comfortable. When Shade left, my mother told me in clear terms that I would not marry the woman I love because she does not come from a wealthy family and marrying her would be demeaning to her and her circle of rich friends.

Two days later, she brought home , her friend's daughter and introduced her to me as my wife to be. My mother insisted that I must marry Kemi, someone I do not have any feelings for.

Since this happened, I have avoided her every time she comes to our house even as my mother calls her 'iyawo' and tells everyone that she is my wife to be.

She has gone ahead to fix the introduction date and has been informing everybody about it. I know that I do not love Kemi and would never want to get married to her but how do I make my mother see that?

Sola."
