The video of a lioness trying to eat a little boy while while his parents laughed and clapped has gone viral.

The video shows the little boy sitting on the floor in front of the lion cage at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Behind him, the big lion, dubbed Angie, starts trying to stalk him, which causes the little boy to cry.

Thankfully for little Trent, the beast was separated from her prey by a thick pane of glass.

The lioness tried opening her gaping jaws to bit the toddler's head off.

Realising there is a barrier between her and her dinner she paws repeatedly at it while Trent' parents laugh and tell Trent the lion is 'smiling' at him.

The viral video, which has been watched nearly 11m times after it was posted on YouTube is dividing the Internet.

While some thought the video cute, one user commented: "don't see anything cute here the lioness was looking at that baby like a t-bone steak and trying desperately to bite through the glass."
