A 70-year-old man who stole a she-goat, Isa Hussaini, will receive five hot lashes of the cane for his crimes.
The sentence was handed down to Hussaini by the Upper Customary Court, Sabongari, Zaria, Kaduna State, after he pleaded guilty to the one-count charge of stealing.
Hussaini, from Funtua Local Government Area of Katsina State, was caught when he stole his neighbour's goat and he did not waste time in pleading guilty, saying he wanted to feed his two wives and children. He therefore asked the court to deal with him leniently due to his old age.
The Judge, Atiku Sarki-Yohana, said he was happy that Hussaini did not waste the time of the court by admitting his guilt and ordered that he be given the strokes, while warning him to desist from any criminal acts in the future.
