Is the PDP ready to give us a viral opposition?

The Peoples Democratic Party seems to have put its house back in order but are they ready to be a vibrant opposition?

The disarray that almost tore the PDP apart came shortly after it lost the 2015 Presidential elections to the APC which led to many of their key members decamping to the winning party, taking with them many of their supporters.

The PDP suddenly saw themselves as outcasts as they tried in vain to put its house in order and not being helped by the two warring factions trying to take over the soul of the party.

The Ahmed Makarfi and Ali Modu Sheriff factions battled each other head on to take control of the party and for many months, they went from one court to the other trying to outdo one another till the Supreme Court put the matter to rest, handing over the reigns of power to Ahmed Makarfi.

The decision of the court saw to the successful hosting of the non-elective National Congress of the PDP last weekend, signaling, on paper, a new beginning for the party but what came out of top members at the convention does not call for jubilation just yet.

Their matter was not helped by past leaders and political stalwarts who, instead of giving hope as a vibrant opposition, went about prancing and reeling out their achievements in the past, vowing to wrest power from the APC come 2019.

They went on an ego trip, claiming they have perfected plans to bring back their members who had defected to the APC when they lost the 2015 elections.

But what they did not make clear was the plans they have to get Nigerians behind them in 2019 to take power back from the APC.

What they did not tell Nigerians was whether they are still the PDP we used to know or they have changed their strategy from what we used to know.

Nigerians are now wiser than they think and everyone knows that the difference between the APC and the PDP is just in the name as they are made up of the same people who will immediately move en masse to the other party as long as their bread is buttered.

Nigerians are tired of recycled politicians with the same motive, agenda of looting and lining their pockets while the masses suffer untold hardship while they feed fat on their collective wealth.

Nigerians are tired of politicians who will neglect every sector of the economy while busy pursuing their personal interests; who will jump on the next available plane to Europe whenever they have a headache while the health institutions are in decay.

Nigerians do not want politicians who will send their children to school abroad while the education system in the country has been left to rotten; Nigerians are now wary of greedy lawmakers who will budget N50 billion for the Ministry of Education while they budget N120 billion for themselves.

What we want now is a party that will provide a credible opposition to any sitting government and gives us reasons why we should vote them into power instead of those who do not have anything to offer and instead of attacking issues, continue to attack people.

Nigerians want a party that will give them something different from what they have been experiencing in the past 18 years of democratic experience, not one that will continue in the rot they have been experiencing.

Yes, if the PDP is not ready to provide a vibrant opposition, they should give way.
