A 26-year-old man, Idowu Ade, has been remanded in prison custody by an Ejigbo Senior Magistrates’ Court sitting in Lagos State, for allegedly attempting to rape a nine-year-old girl in the Shasha area of the state.

A 26-year-old man who attempted to rape a 9-year-old girl has been remanded in prison.
Rape is a crime against humanity
The verdict was handed down on Ade by Magistrate A.A. Adeyemi on Wednesday, December 2, 2015, after he was arraigned at the court on a count charge of attempted rape of a minor.
The police prosecutor, Corporal Femi Adeleye, had told the court that the accused committed the offence on Monday, November 9, 2015.
“The accused lured the child out of her house and took her to the back of the building to have carnal knowledge of her but was caught in the act just as he was about carrying it out after he had stripped the girl and removed his trouser,” Adeleye said.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravened Section 260 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Though Ade pleaded not guilty to the charge, Magistrate Adeyemi ordered that he should be remanded in custody at the Kirikiri Prisons, while adjourning the case until Monday, December 14, 2015, for facts and sentencing.
