Trader arraigned over alleged sexual assault of 12-year-old

The accused is facing a one-count charge of sexual assault.

The accused, aged 29, who lives at Seaside Estate, Badore Area of Ajah, a Lagos suburb, is facing a one-count charge of sexual assault.

The prosecutor, Insp. Simeon Inuoha, told the court that the offence was committed on Nov. 12 at the accused residence.

Inuoha said the victim was on an errand for her mother when the accused intercepted her.

“The accused lured the girl into his room, shut the door and sexually molested her,’’ he said.

According to the prosecutor, the offence contravenes Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused, however, entered a non-guilty plea, and the Chief Magistrate, Mrs B. O Osunsanmi, granted him a N200,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

Osunsanmi adjourned the case to Feb. 9, for trial.
