Boy gets 12 strokes of cane sentence for theft

The Prosecutor, Mr John Ijagbemi, told the court that the boy’s neighbour, Ishaya Boniface, reported him at Nyanyan Police Station on Jan. 18.

Boy gets 12 strokes of cane sentence for theft

A Grade 1 Area Court in Nyanyan, Abuja, on Tuesday ordered that a 12-year-old boy be flogged 12 strokes for theft and trespass.

The Judge, Hassan Ishaq, gave the order after he pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of theft and trespass.

Ishaq also ordered the boy to clear the bush within the court`s premises.

He advised the boy to be of good behavior, and enjoined his guardian, who was present in court, to train him properly.

Ijagbemi said Boniface told the police that he was sleeping in his apartment when the accused trespassed into his room and stole his Nokia handset valued at N8, 500.

The prosecutor said that the handset was recovered from the accused during police investigation. He said the said offences contravened Sections 349 and 287 of the Penal Code
