The protest was organised by both factions in their bid to show support for either the Federal Government or the teachers in the ongoing strike embarked upon by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, (ASUU).

The gathering quickly dissolved into a free for all street fight during a public encounter in Abuja earlier today, Tuesday, September 5, with the police being called to the scene, Punch reports.

It is no longer news that lecturers have been on strike since August 13, in protest of conditions of service, state of education in Nigerian, among others.
