FG yet to release N1.3trn NEEDS fund as promised — ASUU

ASUU has revealed that the Federal Government has since 2013 not released any part of the N1.3 trillion intervention fund it promised Nigerian universities.

ASUU National Chairman, Dr. Nasir Fagge, said this at the University of Ibadan (UI) 63rd Interdisciplinary Discourse.

Fagge, who was represented by ASUU's vice chairman, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, said the union has not received any other sum since the release of the initial N200 billion in 2013.

He said nothing was released throughout 2014 and the first quarter of 2015, despite the agreement the Fg freely signed with the union.

The union boss accused the Federal Government of crippling the operation of public universities through under funding,

According to hi, this leads to the production of unemployable graduates, who are "lacking in basic social, emotional and literacy skills."
