The Pope is really doing his best to bring alienated countries into the mainstream of world politics.

Francis who became the first Latin American Pope, hinted that he may retire soon like his predecessor, Benedict XVI

According to a Vatican spokesman, Federico Lombardi, the meeting with the Cuban President is not an official state visit, but a private one.

It is estimated that more than half of the Cuban population are Catholics. Hence the close ties that exist between the country and the Vatican.

Two former Popes have visited the country of Cuba on different occasions- St. John Paul II, in 1998 and Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI, in 2012.
