Most Rev. Martins who spoke at the third anniversary of his ordination and installation as the Archbishop of Lagos held at the Holy Cross Cathedral, Lagos, said that Buhari’s rejection of same-sex marriage on behalf of Nigeria indicated that he was a responsive leader.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) quoted the Archbishop as saying, “About a week ago, the president won the applause of most Nigerians when during his visit to the United States he made it clear that Nigeria considers same sex union as contrary to our cultural and religious values.
“This is a good development and an indication that we have a listening leader.
“I want to commend Mr. President for abiding by the wishes of the people regarding the sacredness of the traditional notion of marriage and family life in our culture.”
Martins was ordained as Archbishop of Lagos on August 4, 2012. He took over when Anthony Cardinal Okogie retired as Cardinal.
