"The majority of Iranians here are not converting out of belief, they only want to stay in Germany."

Pastor Gottfried Martens of the Evangelical Trinity Church Berlin claims hundreds of Islamic asylum seekers have converted to Christianity.

According to Associated Press, he said he has seen his congregation grow from 150 to more than 600 in just two years, describing the number of conversions as a 'miracle'.

However, few members of his congregation believes that these refugees are professing the christian faith only to boost their chances of staying in the country.

"The majority of Iranians here are not converting out of belief, they only want to stay in Germany," Vesam Heydari, member of the church told Associated Press.

Martens acknowledged the possibility of the refugees faking their beliefs, but he further stated that even after baptism most of these converts still attend and engage in church programs.

"I know there are  again and again  people coming here because they have some kind of hope regarding their asylum," Martens said.

I am inviting them to join us because I know that whoever comes here will not be left unchanged," he further stated.
