Churches to pull down crosses on their buildings

Christians in china say the growth of the Church is making the communist party jittery.

Last year authorities demolished the Sanjiang Church, a visible structure that was under construction near a major highway in Wenzhou.

In another related incident, a Wenzhou court sentenced Pastor Huang Yizi to one year in prison because he openly criticised the removal of crosses from the rooftop of churches.

Right now, the province of Zhejiang  is putting together an enabling law that will give them legal backing to remove crosses from the rooftop of churches.

Sources say that officials of the province have removed over 400 crosses from the rooftop of churches, citing that they violate the province’s building code.

The rules on religious structures that is being collated by the government says crosses should to be erected should not be more than one-tenth of the building’s façade height.

The Zhejiang city of Wenzhou is normally referred to as China’s Jerusalem because of the large number of churches present in the province.
