A 34-year-old teacher who allegedly killed his two-month-old baby after a quarrel with his girlfriend has been arrested by the police.

Stephen Kyereh is alleged to have been arrested by a search party after he escaped into a forest at Tekese Nkokotoa.

He teaches at the Tekese Nkokotoa District Assembly Junior High School near Drobo in the Brong Ahafo Region.

The incident happened when Kyereh, who could not control his temper after his girlfriend had demanded money from him for her to register their son with the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), seized the baby from the mother and allegedly threw him onto the ground.

Speaking to the Daily Graphic about the incident, the Brong Ahafo Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Mr. Christopher Tawiah, said Kyere, besides her wife, had a girlfriend called Sakyiwaa Miriam, 22, who is unemployed.

He said Kyere had a two-month-old baby boy, Racheel Anafi Agyeman, by his girlfriend.

Mr Tawiah said on June 17, this year, Sakyiwaa went to Kyereh's school to ask for money to enable her to register their son with the National Health Insurance Scheme.

According to him, Sakyiwaa's demand resulted in a quarrel between the two.

During the quarrel, Kyereh snatched the baby from Sakyiwaa's back and threw him onto the ground. The baby is said to have died instantly and the mother raised an alarm which attracted many people to the scene.
