On-demand ride company hits back at regulators over licence renewal

Uber has laid down the social economic implications of their service being pulled off the metropolitan city in a response letter.

The Transport For London (TfL) had in a tweet announced that they will not be renewing the licence of Uber in London.earlier on Friday, September 22, 2017.

The regulators gave their reasons saying Uber has not demonstrated corporate responsibility towards security and safety of the public among other issues.

"Uber's approach and conduct demonstrate a lack of corporate responsibility in relation to a number of issues which have potential public safety and security implications", and therefore “not fit and proper” to further hold the licence, said TfL.

Uber's current licence will be expiring on Saturday, September 30 and given a grace of 21 days to appeal the decision has responded in a tweet to the announced ban.

Fellow ride-hailing company Taxify three days after launching in London were suspended for running into legal issues with TfL and also appealed for a re-lauch.

Uber has been operating in the capital since 2012 and has faced huge opposition from taxi drivers and other critics over its treatment of drivers with accusations that it has added to congestion in the city among other things.
