According to various media reports, pan African banking group, United Bank for Africa (UBA), has launched a new mobile banking platform called U-Mobile.

According to a report by Mobile Money Africa, the new platform is designed to be ‘more advanced and user-friendly’ than the platform that precedes it.

It is compatible with multiple devices including tablets, phones, iPhones, Android, and Blackberry phones.

‘The new U-Mobile is an entirely new platform,’ says Yinka Adedeji, divisional head for digital banking at UBA.

Adedeji adds that the purpose of the new app is ‘to offer quick and easy banking at your fingertips, no matter where you are or the time of day’.

One of the key features of the new app is the new marketplace, which offers SMEs the ability to operate a virtual store and also receive payments, according to the Mobile Money Africa report.

The U-Mobile platform is a complimentary service to the existing online banking app of the bank, U-Direct.

Mobile Money Africa reveals that both platforms run on Infosys’ Finacle offering, an offering UBA has been using for its core banking system for over a decade.
