Your urine can now be used to generate electricity

Oxfam says the energy generated by the device is efficient and cheap and it is powered by tiny microbes that feed on urine.

One of the interesting things in life today, is that technology is being applied constantly to ease life’s processes in every sphere of human endeavour. Recently, scholars at the University of the West of England decided to research for a way to help women and girls in refugee camps who are molested and abused when they go to use the bathroom at night.

As a result of the research, the scholars came up with a brilliant and innovative idea- a urinal that lights up, when a person makes use of it. The prototype of this unique technology has been released to press men, and a press release from Oxfam was made available to Huffington post.

Oxfam and the Gates foundation supported this project from beginning to the end. This innovative technology will go a long way to help women and girls who do not go out at night to urinate, because of the fear of being molested. Doctors in the refugee camps say that women, who hold back urine, stand a great risk of having urinary tract infections, in addition to other diseases.

Oxfam says the energy generated by the device is efficient and cheap and it is powered by tiny microbes that feed on urine. The team is looking at going into the mass production phase. Sources say these urine powered devices will be distributed to selected refugee camps all over the world.
