Lawmaker Lobbies For ICT-Based Assessment

The lawmaker believes that making the exams ICT-based will reduce the level of malpractices and corruption associated with it.

Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Barr. Razak Atunwa, has urged the National Examination Council (NECO), to make its examinations ICT-based.

According to Atunwa, the initiative will help to further check examination malpractices and corruption in the conduct of public examinations in the country.

The lawmaker made the call in Ilorin while receiving the Ilorin Zonal Officer of NECO, Musa Tilde in his office, Leadership.ng reports.

Atunwa who spoke through his Deputy, Professor Mohammed Gana Yisa, said this has become imperative to further check corrupt practices which normally permeate public examinations.

He enjoined the federal government to provide the necessary logistic to make NECO improve on its performance to further enhance the quality of its examinations.

The Speaker explained that the legislative body under his leadership had assisted the state government in taking decisions that had enhanced the integrity of public examinations in the state.

He recalled the efforts of the state government at eliminating magic centres in the state, pointing out that some officials who aided examination malpractices were sent packing by the state government to serve as deterrent to others.

Atunwa praised NECO for manifesting progressive achievements in its activities yearly and assured that the State House of Assembly would continue to support it.

Earlier, the Ilorin Zonal Officer of NECO, Mr. Musa Tilde had praised the state House of Assembly for ensuring enactment of quality laws which according to him had impacted positively on the people of the State and solicited the support of the legislative body at improving the on going registration drive for NECO examination in the state.
