London police use drones in Airport

Following the impressive performance of the drones tested at Gatwick airport, the National Counter Terrorism Policing Headquarters, has recommended adopted them for surveillance.

These drones will be used in surveillance operations by units guarding Heathrow, Stansted, Luton and City airports.

Information reaching us from our sources say selected airports in the UK will also use the technology.

According to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), a full scale launch of the drone surveillance systems will be concluded in the next 18 months.

Security experts say the police will handle the investigation of illegal use of drones. A responsibility handled by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA).

Tech watchers say the increasing number of drones in the UK is disturbing, citing its misuse as a major reason.

Speaking at the counter terror expo in London, George Trebess, a representative of the National Counter Terrorism Policing Headquarters said that the use of drones for Airport security is a transformative technology.

"With the new system we will be able to carry out missions around seven times faster than ground-based activity and at around 10% of the cost. We estimate £1.2m would be saved in three years," Trebess said.
