Ruling party says its website has been cloned, blames opposition

Nabena also told newsmen that the website address being circulated on social media is fake.

According to the party’s spokesman, “Our internal investigation has revealed that the fake website is sponsored by one of the main opposition political parties in its desperate and criminal plot to harvest APC members ahead of the 2019 general elections.

“We have deliberately not named the political party and hereby call on relevant security agencies to urgently investigate the website and its sponsors.

“Meanwhile, we urge our teeming supporters and members to take advantage of the ongoing Continuous Nationwide Membership Registration exercise in all 36 States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

“The exercise will include both fresh registrations and revalidation of existing membership for the purposes of issuance of the Party’s permanent membership cards.”

Sometime in April 2018, an account on Twitter believed to be the ruling party’s, was hijacked by hackers.

The APC however disowned the Twitter account later.

Recently, Guardian UK and TheObserver, both reported that a London firm called Cambridge Analytica was allegedly hired by the Goodluck Jonathan campaign team just before the 2015 election to dig up dirt on then candidate, Muhammadu Buhari.

The report also revealed that some Israelis were commissioned to hack into Buhari’s emails and uproot his medical records.
