The stones were removed in a 2-hour operation at the Dongyang People’s Hospital in Jinhua city of East China’s Zhejiang province.
The man, He Dong was told that his high protein diet was the likely cause for the stones, which he confirmed after he told doctors that he ate a large daily diet of gypsum tofu, a local food with a high concentration of calcium sulphate.Explaining how the diet led to the stone, Dr Wei Yubin said,
‘'Soy products, especially gypsum tofu, are very high in calcium, the excess of which cannot be excreted from body without a sufficient intake of water.’'
Yubin revealed that the man said he doesn’t like drinking water which eventually led to the stones.
He has however been ordered to change his eating habits, and has also been told to cut down the amount of tofu he consumes every day.
