52 female suicide bombers (not pictured) have reportedly been trained to launch attacks in Maiduguri, Borno state

Two female bombers have died in Borno State after the explosives they were carrying detonated prematurely.

The would-be attackers were blown apart at about 2pm on Sunday, March 22, at  Auno village in the Konduga Local Government Area of the state, Punch reports.

They were believed to have been making their way to the popular Monday Market in Maiduguri, the state capital, when they lost their lives.

“The suicide bombers were said to have been brought from Damaturu by one suspected Boko Haram terrorist, who dropped them in Jakana and told them to take a bus to the next town. On reaching Auno, they thought it was Maiduguri and they start asking about Maiduguri Monday Market," an eyewitness, Gana Bukar told Punch.

“We were told that their master dropped them in Jakana because he knew that it would be very difficult for them to beat security checkpoints and enter Maiduguri,” he added.

Seven people, who were said to have been injured in the resulting explosion, are currently receiving treatment at the Maiduguri General Hospital.
