4,104 roads have been maintained in five years

Between 2010 and this year, 4,014 roads have been maintained in Lagos state, the Lagos State Public Works Corporation has said.

In a document made available to Punch.ng, the LSPWC stated that the number of roads worked on had improved considerably due to the fundamental changes and innovations brought by the corporations executive chairman, Mr. Gbenga Akintola.

The document further illustrates that in 2009, 176 roads were maintained, while 212, 568, 705, 988, and 1135 roads were maintained in 2011, 2012, 2013, and 2014 respectively with a further 320 already done this year.

Also, interlocking paving stones were introduced for road maintenance as a solution for roads in water-logged areas to last longer.

“In order to consolidate this method in a more efficient way, the corporation established paving stones and kerbs production factories in its yards in Ojodu-Berger and Badagry. The corporation also proposed and received the governor’s approval to set up two new asphalt plants in Imota, Ikorodu and Ajido, Badagry.

“These two plants have production capacity of 160 tonnes of asphalt per hour. While the one in Imota was inaugurated by the governor in February 2014; that of Badagry is presently awaiting inauguration even though it has started full operation since December 2014.” the document read in part.

The document further explained that the Imota Plant, covers about 420 roads in Ikorodu, Epe, Ibeju-Lekki and some parts of the Eti-Osa Local government area, while the Badagry Plant covers over 400 roads in the Ojo, Amuwo-Odofin, Ajeromi-Ifelodun and parts of the Alimosho axis.
