TATA to commence automobile assemblage in Nigeria

Few weeks after Volkswagen announced that it will resume assembling vehicles in Nigeria, Indian auto giants, TATA, is following suit.

TATA will soon commence assembling their vehicles in Nigeria

India owned auto giants, TATA Automobile Company is set to commence assemblage of its brand of vehicles in Nigeria, in response to the country’s new policy in the automobile sector.

This is in the realisation of Nigeria’s drive to attract maximum benefits from trade partnership with major auto manufacturers as part of efforts to boost employment generation and improve the nation’s earning in the non-oil sectors.

In the dying days of the administration under former President Goodluck Jonathan, the government had put in place a national auto policy aimed at attracting foreign direct investments.

Many of the major vehicle manufacturers such as Nissan, Volkswagen, had in the past one year, either commenced auto assemblage in Nigeria or are currently taking advantage of the new national auto policy.

According to the Regional Manager of TATA North and West Africa, Kshitij Verma, the company has concluded arrangements to unveil the first set of assembled trucks by the 3rd week of August, 2015.

While addressing TATA executives in Abuja, the Director General of NAC, Engr. Aminu Jalal, reassured Nigerians that value is being added locally to brands assembled in Nigeria and that high quality employment is already happening even though assembling operations at the moment is at the semi knocked down level.
