5 most common sex injuries and to avoid them

When it comes to sex, pleasure is all we think of, not pain. However, unhealthy sexual practices can lead to injuries and make it a painful experience. Here are the five most common sexual injuries and ways to avoid them.

Sex injury

Love hurts, they say. Sex also does so, at times. It's a no-brainer that a cut or tear at the entrance of a sensitive area like vagina can be excruciatingly painful. It is mostly caused by insufficient lubrication during intercourse. Though the vagina heals on its own in most cases, a severe injury may lead to bleeding and long-term infection as well. Consult a gynaecologist if the bleeding continues or the pain doesn't vanish on its own. The best way to prevent the condition is to ensure natural lubrication through lots of foreplay. However, store-bought lubes can also help in the waterworks.

A sore vagina is the most common sex injury. Here also, the usual culprit is lack of lubrication. Doctors suggest over-the-counter painkillers for an aching vagina. However, if you want to look for natural remedies, a lukewarm bath can be your answer. Discuss with your partner about this issue and figure out what changes need to be brought about to avoid this condition.

Though a rare sex injury, this is a man's nightmare. But penile fracture can be a reality if an erect penis gets hit forcefully and the blood-laden chambers inside it break. A fracture in the penis is a medical emergency. It has been found that the chances of this condition increase in case of the woman-on-top position. A penile fracture manifests through soreness, bruises, leaking blood, severe pain, so on and so forth.

Any strenuous activity can lead to pulled muscle. Sex is a high intensity activity that can result in muscle injury. Though thigh and calf muscles are most vulnerable to injury during an intercourse, any part of your body may be affected in course of the act. Over-the-counter painkillers and light stretches can be the best solutions for pulled muscles.

Having sex on your rug can be fun. But it may give you scratches all over or a burning sensation to your skin. Disinfecting the area with soap and water will have a healing effect. Also, use a soft towel or blanket instead of carpet if you want to have fun on the floor next time.
