Ronnie Coleman Tells Joe Rogan How He Successfully Doped During Mr. Olympia

Professional bodybuilder and eight-time consecutive Mr. Olympia winner Ronnie Coleman appeared on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast yesterday, where he discussed bodybuilding and steroid usage.

Ronnie Coleman Tells Joe Rogan About Steroid Usage

Coleman, now 56, wanted to clarify certain aspects of his history of using steroids, which began at age 30 after he was tired of getting my ass kicked [at competition]. Once he began using, Coleman shot up middling ranks to winning the annual bodybuilding competition. Steroids helped leveled the playing field, he said.

Everything was legal back then, Coleman saidthough he may have meant "acceptable" given that anabolic steroids were still considered a controlled substance at the time. Coleman said he would get steroid prescriptions from doctors and that hed even show the prescriptions to drug enforcement officials when they approached competitors. Coleman also suggested that to attain the physique he achieved during his Mr. Olympia days, one might necessarily have to use some kind of steroid or growth hormone.

Coleman noted, however, that people carried a misconception that he was recklessly taking all kinds of steroids. I wasnt taking tons of stuff. I probably wasnt taking any more than what those baseball players were taking." Even when he stopped using steroids (cold turkey), Coleman said he felt totally normal. (Use of anabolic steroids have been found to cause higher rates of premature death in men , and some limited studies have found that those who abuse steroids are at a greater risk of suicide .)

Coleman told Rogan that he was also able to reach his peak Mr. Olympia size without any apparent long-term health conditions, though he conceded that both his size and reaction to the steroids is likely exceedingly rare. He was also juicing under constant supervision, he added, and said his doctor would run blood tests on him every three to four months.
