1. Have extra cash handy

It's always important to have extra cash handy. Try as much as possible to have currencies of your 'host' country handy as card payments can get dodgy resulting in disappointments whereas paying any type of bill can come up at any point in your trip.

2. Keep notes/ cards etc within reach

When travelling keep short notes for instance write down addresses, take down phone numbers as phones could get lost in transit, flash drives could get confiscated at the airport and so on.

3. Make friends

Be polite and friendly to people especially those you meet on the plane as well as wherever you decide to travel to; locals/indigenes alike. Sometimes these people are available when you need anything, information, details about places, regulations etc that would help make your trip fun and convenient.

4. Be Observant

Observe your surroundings from the plane to when you land, try as much as possible to know what people around you get up to. A lot of times, some people tend to be out to steal from you or even harm in any way if you take note of the little things there's a possibility nothing will catch you off guard.
