Only if we knew half of the true story behind all what we eat. Here are 10 surprising food facts that are unchewable.

1. Chocolates can be eaten as a fruit

Research has shown that chocolate can be just as good for you as fruit. Dark chocolate is higher in disease-fighting antioxidants. For maximum benefit, it is best to choose dark chocolate over milk chocolate, as the dairy variety contains. For milk chocolate, it could have been watered down with additional sugar and more processing which reduces the health benefits.

2. Coffee beans works well for bad breath

Chewing on roasted coffee beans can go some way to rid you of bad breath.

Other options to freshen your breath include or mint leaves. Israeli scientists have found that coffee can inhibit the bacteria that leads to bad breath too.

3. Bird’s saliva is a delicacy in China

Bird’s nest soup is an expensive delicacy made from bird’s nests created from the saliva of small swiftlets. The Chinese have been using this as food for over four centuries. The nests are dissolved in water to make a soup which is believed to have exquisite flavour and be of benefit to health.

They are considered to be one of the most expensive animal food products consumed by humans.

4. Ketchup was used to treat diarrhoea

Back in the 1800s, people used Ketchup for curing diarrhoea, jaundice and indigestion.

They believed tomatoes had a powerful healing power and took both ketchup and tomato pills in the hope of feeling better. Anyway, the medicinal value of tomato-based medicine collapsed in 1840 after many tomato pills were found to be fake.

5. Honey is made from Bee vomit

That sweet honey syrup that everyone loves is a combination of something no one wants. Apparently, honey is made with Bees vomit and nectar for that natural healing property.

6. Sausages are older than Bible

The first written mention of sausages dates back to almost 4000-years. The ancient Sumerians of Mesopotamia had written about sausages in their texts during this time meaning that sausages were present even in those ages.

7. Peanuts are used to make dynamites

Yes! Peanuts are an ingredient in making dynamite. They contain an oil that is used in the process of making glycerol. Glycerol is one of the main ingredients in nitroglycerin and nitroglycerin is the main part of dynamite.

8. Eggs are good for diabetes

A boiled egg is a great protein snack for diabetes patient. The protein will keep you full without affecting your blood sugar. Protein not only slows digestion, it also slows glucose absorption.

9. Vinegar can dissolve a pearl

Pearls can dissolve in vinegar however you need larger concentrations. Pearls are mostly made up of Calcium Carbonate (CaCO33). Carbonates can react with acids to give carbon dioxide, water and salt.

10. Figs are dead wasps

Not literally... But figs are pollinated by female wasps, who lose their wings in the process of pollination. The wasp has no way to get out of the fig and so they die inside, the fig's enzymes breaks down and dissolves the wasp.
