The all-new 10-story extension opens today Friday, June 17th with a series of performances and new installations.

Valued at a whooping £260million (about N73 billion), London's Tate museum recently unveiled it's newly completed museum annex.

The Tate museum annex offers visitors a permanent space in a twisted pyramid-shaped building to view live art for the first time and boasts a breath-taking 10th floor viewing platform.

The new building which has increased Tate's size by 60% was designed by Herzog & de Meuron, who designed the original conversion of the Bankside Power Station into Tate Modern in 2000.

According to Daily Mail, the building's exterior uses bricks to match the existing museum but the bricks are staggered in a lattice formation so that the interior lights can shine through in the evening,

Meanwhile a total of 167,699 bricks were used for the construction.

About 800 by 300 artists from over 50 countries around the world, including masterpieces by Pablo Picasso, Mark Rothko and Henri Matisse will be re-hung between the existing buildings and the new Switch House.

Switch House is said to be the first gallery space in the world 'dedicated to live art, film and installations' as visitors will be able to enjoy numerous free live performances during the opening weekend.

Asides select exhibits, much of the museum will remain free to visitors.
