A talented artist has painted a series of animal portraits that look so realistic, they could be mistaken for photographs.
The interesting thing is that the artist is also a photographer, talk about best of both worlds! The talented artist and photographer, Leon Fouche has created super realistic drawings of exotic animals.
He drew a pack of wild dogs as well as a cheetah and her cubs. These intricate and highly detailed paintings come from his knowledge of photography and his skill as an artist.
Fouche has shot photos of animals in different game reserves in South Africa, including the Big Five. With his incredible skill, he recreated some of his most favourite photographs, making them into detailed paintings.
33 year old Fouche says: “It’s my original artwork that is my career, I take my own photos mostly to use as reference when I do my drawings. And of course being out there photographing our amazing wildlife is what inspires me to continue with my career."
“I’ve never taken an art course and never took it as a subject in high school. It’s really a gift that I was lucky to get from my mother, combined with a passion for our wildlife that’s driven me to develop my talent. My favourite subject to paint is the leopard. They’re the most work to paint but so worth it when the painting is complete. They’re just exquisite animals."
Fouche sometimes spends weeks in the wild, taking breathtaking photos of wildlife.
