Widow begs Nigerians to save her baby
A widow whose 7-month-old baby has a hole in the heart, has cried to Nigerians to assist her with funds for the baby's surgery.
The 36-year-old widow who was delivered of a baby girl on 28 June, 2014, lamented how life has been unfair to her in all ramifications, and wondered if God has abandoned her.
When Mukaila gave birth to the child, she thought her coming would give succour to her grieving heart after she lost her husband few months to the birth. Little did she know that her excitement would be cut short after the little baby was diagnosed with a hole in the heart.
After delivery, she started breast feeding her baby, expecting to see her baby grow. But, the more she breast fed, the more emaciated her baby grew. Though a bit active, her eye balls appeared small in their sockets, while her breathing was belaboured.
Initially, the nursing mother, who lost her husband, Rasak Mukaila, when the pregnancy was five months’ old, thought it was fever or jaundice as she tried all she could to get rid of the illness.
According to the mother of four, she took the girl to the University College Hospital (UCH), on September 30, October 28, November 11 and December 9, 2014, but after a month of treatment at UCH, the hapless baby was discharged owing to her mother’s inability to settle the accumulated bills and the subsequent unfortunate medical workers’ strike.
Hear her lamentations:
"Why has life been so unfair to me? In whatever manner, I don’t deserve this kind of fate.
My husband died when my pregnancy was five months. He complained of malaria and before I knew what was happening, he died. See what has happened to this baby that could have at least lessened my sorrow.
She has a hole in her heart and has been growing lean by the day. I sell raw foods, but I have not been able to go to shop for five months now. I have been battling with the health of this baby, surviving only at the mercy of Good Samaritans.
I was told she can only be cured in India. I plead with Nigerians with milk of human kindness to please help me so that my baby would not die.
I was told in the hospital that it can be cure through surgery in India. There is no way I can get there without the help of Nigerians.
Please, help me. I don’t like putting my burden on others but this is beyond me, considering the cost implication."
