According to Punch Metro, the accident occurred when the driver of the Mazda car, reported to be conveying the deceased, dangerously overtook a vehicle, leading it to a head-on collision with the truck.
David Ogundana, the Ogunmakin Unit Commander, of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), gave an account of the accident.
He said, “The accident happened around 2.30pm on Sunday at the Onigari end of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.”
“Two vehicles were involved, a Mazda car and a truck. Because of the ongoing construction work on the road, all vehicles were diverted to one side.”
“The Mazda driver, who was impatient, wrongly overtook and had a head-on collision with the truck. Nothing happened to the three occupants of the truck. But the three people in the car died on the spot.”
“We later discovered that they were family members. We deposited the corpses at the Yemetu mortuary, Ring Road, Ibadan, Oyo State. We also removed the wreckage for free movement of traffic.”
The Mazda car, which began a trip from Osun State, was heading towards Sagamu, Ogun State, when the accident happened.
