The long spell of salary arrears being owed to workers on the payroll of Osun State, stretching into eight months, has claimed the life of a night guard working with the government when he reportedly slumped and died at the government secretariat in Oshogbo, the state capital, reports Vanguard Newspaper.
Hungry night guard slumps, dies in Ogun
Another civil servant in Osun State has died due to hunger and lack of money to buy drugs.
The guard, identified as Tunde, from Modakeke area of the state, allegedly died when striking workers and pensioners in the state gathered at the secretariat to protest the non-payment of their salaries and gratuity.
The night guard who was attached to the office of the Auditor-General in the state, reportedly died as a result of hunger and his inability to buy food and drugs due to the backlog of salaries being owed the workers by the state government.
The death of the night guard is the second within days after a middle aged worker reportedly slumped and died on Wednesday, June 10, in similar circumstances.
