A man and his friend has been arrested for selling his own child.

A new born baby

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested two men, Nkereuwem Matthew Ebong and Enobong Sunday Thomas, for allegedly stealing a new born baby delivered by Ebong's wife, Nseabasi, and selling her for N100,000.

The suspects, both of Edienne Ikot Ibio Imo village in Uyo Local Government Area, allegedly stole the baby while Nseabasi was sleeping and took her to a buyer they had already negotiated with and handed her over to the person and collected the money. By the time they got back home and the new mother asked her husband the whereabouts of her baby, Ebong reportedly told her the child had died and he and his friend had buried her.

The woman was said not to be satisfied with the explanation and asked her husband to show her the grave of her baby and when he could not show her the grave, she raised the alarm and neighbours apprehended him before he could run away. When he was handed over to the police, he confessed to selling the infant with his friend who was also arrested.
