A man has killed himself after stabbing his mother

A 30-year-old man in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State, Tochukwu Ogbonna, committed a sacrilegious act by stabbing his own mother at night and went ahead to commit suicide by setting himself and their house on fire.

Though the mother survived the stabbing and is said to be responding to treatment at the Federal Medical Center, Umuahia, Ogbonna would not live to state what motivated him to take such drastic measures.

The sad incident which occurred at the family's residence on 12, Bonny Street, Umuahia. has thrown the town into a frenzy and apprehension.

A co-tenant of the Ogbonnas said the incident occurred about 11 pm on Tuesday, June 2, when a serious argument ensued between Tochukwu, a known drug addict and a menace to his family and the entire neighbourhood, and his mother, which prompted him to stab her with a knife and thereafter killed their dog with the same knife.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), Ezekiel Onyeke, confirmed the incident and said the command has commenced investigations into the matter.
