Teacher flogs student to death in Ibadan

A teacher in Ibadan has allegedly flogged a student to late because he came late to school.

Violence and pandemonium was the order of the day as students of the IMG Secondary School, Oke Ado, Ibadan, Oyo State, became unruly while protesting the death of one of their colleagues who was allegedly flogged to death by a teacher on Wednesday, October 28.

As reported by the Tribune, the deceased student had arrived the school late and the teacher set about punishing him but it turned awry as the boy slumped and died as a result of the severe punishment.

As the students took to the streets in protest of the death, valuable properties of the school were destroyed before the police came to restore calm and disperse them.

It was gathered that trouble started when the student arrived school after classes had commenced for the day, and when questioned, he reportedly told the teacher he came late due to illness but at that moment, the school's principal happened to be passing around and when he asked the teacher why he was having a discussion with the student, he was told the boy had come late and the principal ordered the teacher to flog the late student.

It was in the process of flogging the boy that he slumped and before help could come his way, he had given up the ghost.
