Siblings jailed 3 years each for stealing N280K
A 27-year-old woman and her younger brother have been sentenced to prison for stealing N280K after hacking an email.
The siblings were found guilty by an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court sitting in Lagos State on Tuesday, October 11, 2016, on the three-counts charges that were preferred against them.
The charges were conspiracy, forgery and stealing and the presiding Magistrate, Magistrate A. T. Omoyele, sentenced them to one year imprisonment on each of the counts without an option of fine.
The prosecuting police officer, Sergeant Cyriacus Osuji, had earlier told the court that the Momohs had hacked into an e-mail account belonging to one Segun Omolodun and thereafter forged a letter in his name to his friend, Kehinde Olaniyan.
The letter requested Olaniyan to transfer N280,000 into Zememoi’s Diamond Bank account, which she did.
But the bubble burst on them when Omolodun reported to the police that his account had been hacked and a letter purportedly emanating from him to his friend was fake.
After a thorough investigation, the account was traced to Zememoi and she and her brother were arrested.
