Trader lands in court over diversion of N2.2m worth of bicycles

A trader at the Alaba International Market in Ojo, Lagos State, has reportedly been arrested and charged before the court for diverting N2.2 million worth of bicycles.

23-yr-old Chidiebere Udeze is alleged to have presented Salisu Dan-Fulani to the victim, Wisi Awoloto who had earlier imported bicycles worth N2.2m.

Udeze is reported to have pleaded with Awoloto, asking for the bicycles to be released to him on credit to Dan-Fulani on his behalf with a promise to pay at a much later date.

The transaction is said to have taken place at Jenon Plaza located at the Alaba International market, where Udeze and his accomplice are reported to have met up with Awoloto.

The bicycles were released to Udeze, which he in turn pretended to have taken to the Northern part of Nigeria to sell, at the time of the transaction, sometime in 2015.

Sadly, Awoloto revealed that Udeze neither returned nor made any attempts to pay the money owed to him.

After the matter had been reported to the police, they had successfully trailed ad arrested Udeze around Idimu area of Lagos State.

Udeze reportedly told the police at the Area M Command that Dan-Fulani had disappeared after taking the bicycles to the north with a promise to sell and return the money owed.

The suspect following his arrest, was charged to court, where he pled not guilty to the charges.

Udeze was reportedly granted bail of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum, meanwhile he is to remain in jail till he is able to perfect his bail.

The matter has reportedly been adjourned till 8 February, 2016.
