Enugu traditional ruler at war with subjects over witchcraft accusation

A traditional ruler in Enugu State has been accused of running his community with impunity and high handedness.

This story may sound like a scene in a Nollywood movie but according to Barrister Chukwui Iwuchukwu, a lawyer and a journalist, it is a true and real story that happened in Unadu community in Enugu State.

Iwuchukwu took to his blog to narrate the unwholesome treatment the Igwe has been subjecting his people to:

"The of Unadu community in Nsukka local government of the state, Barnabas Agbaji, a retired police officer, who had allegedly forced himself to become the Igwe (chief) of the town, recently elevated the act of wickedness to another notch by arresting two of his subjects named as Remigus Nwa Ikeagwu and Silas Ameh, arbitrarily accused them of witchcraft, single handedly convicted the accused persons and proceeded to hang a tire around their necks, tied fresh palm fronds all over their bodies and paraded them around the community as common criminals.

According to a source in the community, the traditional ruler has been ruling the town with high handedness and impunity, leaving his subjects in fear and misery, boasting that nothing will happen to him because of his influence in the state government.

Going by the investigations carried out by me, tension is already running high in the community and his people are spoiling for war, threatening fire and brimstone if appropriate action is not taken against the ex-policeman turned traditional ruler and some of his subjects are calling for his dethronement because his recent bizarre action on his subjects is the height of what they can tolerate."

Iwuchukwu also took to his Twitter handle to post photos of the dastardly act.
