A 27-year-old drug peddler in Lagos, Sadiq Balogun, has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment by a Federal High Court presided over by Justice Okon Abang after he was found guilty of dealing in heroin and other hard drugs.
Balogun, a petty trader who resides at Ikpodo Street, Ikeja, was dragged to the court by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), after he was nabbed by a team of drug law officials while he was selling 11.6 grammes of heroin.
Justice Abang therefore convicted Balogun after the review of the facts of the case as provided by the prosecutor, Orji Kalu, an officer of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
Abang also noted that the confessional statement of the convict revealed that he had been involved in smoking and selling of heroin, cocaine and hemp for over 10 years.
Abang said:
"I condemn in strong terms the act of the convict as it is harmful to the society. Based on the plea of the accused and the evidence before the court, the accused is found guilty as charged and accordingly convicted.
He is hereby sentenced to 10 years imprisonment which takes effect from the date of arraignment."
