Haruna Shakiru, 20, a member of a three-man robbery gang, which had been terrorising residents of Igando, a Lagos suburb, and its environs, has been arrested by police in Lagos.
The criminals normally attacked commuters in the early hours of the day, snatching bags, money and other valuables.
Although the other two gang members are at large, Haruna was intercepted by men of the vigilante group, while the gang was operating at Ifelodun Bus Stop in the area.
He was handed over to the police at Igando, who subsequently transferred him to Lagos State Police Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Ikeja.
Haruna said:
“I live at 2, Abolaji Street Egan, Igando. I also work as a furniture maker there.
It was my friend, Kehinde, who introduced me into robbery. I started operating with him this year. He told me it was a very profitable way of life.
We operated more at the bus stops between 4:30a.m. and 5:30a.m. We always hijack motorcycles for each operation. Kehinde also bought the two guns we use for operation.”
