Femi Set To Pick A Grammy!

Afrobeat musician Femi Kuti, the son of late Afrobeat pioneer, Fela Anikulapo Kuti has been nominated at the 54th edition of the prestigious Grammy Awards. Femi picked up his third ever nomination in the World Music Category for his ‘Africa for Africa‘ album on Wednesday, November 30, 2011 when the list was unveiled at the ‘Grammy Nominations Concert Live!‘ in Los Angeles, US.

He was first nominated in 2003 but lost to Panamanian salsa singer Rubén Blades. Then again in 2010 he lost in same fashion to US banjo player Bela Fleck. This time however he is up against Latin/Roots music band AfroCubism, South African male choral group Ladysmith Black Mambazo, and Malian band Tinariwen.

Grammy and family we thank you for the continuous nominations, please it will not be a bad idea if he wins this time, or what do you guys think? Anyway it shows we (Nigeria) are still relevant to world music and Afrobeat as such is alive and kicking.

We say congrats to Femi kuti even as he expects the new addition to his family. Expect also an addition to your list of awards, so start writing your ‘Thank You Speech’ because you are coming back with the Grammy (You can thank us later). And if you don’t get it we will be there to do the “Kanye” on your behalf lol!
